GRX 40 are versatile gravel wheels for riders who want a light, strong and predictable set for training, racing and long days out. The minimalist design matches any bike.
• Width for modern gravel
The 27 mm internal width gives the tire better lateral support. This translates into higher traction, lower rolling resistance and more stable handling on loose surfaces.
• 40 mm profile – dynamic yet composed
The 40 mm height is a conscious balance between aerodynamics and control. The wheels hold speed well and stay predictable in crosswinds.
• Double hook – wheels ready for anything
The rims use our proprietary double hook system. The inner hook guarantees secure tire seating, while the external reinforcement of the bead adds extra protection for the rim during hard impacts.
GRX 40 wheels are hand built around DT Swiss 350 or 240 EXP hubs, known for reliability and easy servicing. We use double-butted Sapim Race spokes or aerodynamic Sapim CX-Sprint spokes. Careful hand lacing and precise truing mean the wheels will run trouble-free for many thousands of kilometers.
Will the GRX 40 wheels fit my bike? (Axle Standard)
Yes, the wheels are configured by default for the most popular thru-axle system: 12×100 mm (front) and 12×142 mm (rear), which is the standard for almost all modern gravel bikes. If your bike uses a different system (e.g., Quick Release, road boost, 15×100, or other rarer standards), write to us – upon request, we can convert the hubs (swap end caps) to match your frame’s standard.
Are the wheels tubeless-ready (tape and valves)?
Yes, all wheels leaving our workshop are already airtight-taped with the proper tubeless tape. Valves are not included in the set, but you can purchase them in our store. Just add them to your cart, and we will ensure they have the correct length and base shape to perfectly fit your wheels.
Will these wheels be too wide for me? (Tire Selection)
Definitely not. An internal width of 27 mm is currently the optimal dimension for gravel tires ranging from 35 mm to 58 mm. Such a profile allows the tire to sit naturally in a stable “U-shape” (instead of a “lightbulb” shape), providing excellent sidewall support in corners, better traction, and lower rolling resistance off-road. This is a modern standard that significantly improves the bike’s handling characteristics.
Are the rims Hookless or Hooked, and can I use inner tubes?
The GRX 40 model uses the proven Hooked standard (with a bead hook). In gravel cycling, this is key for safety – it allows for the use of any tires (both Tubeless and tube-type) and safe riding at higher pressures on asphalt sections, without the limitations typical of Hookless rims.
What is the difference between the available hub versions (Dandy Horse TCN vs. DT Swiss)?
Dandy Horse TCN hubs feature a 72t freehub with a reliable pawl system, offering a great price-to-quality ratio. DT Swiss 350 and 240 hubs use the patented Ratchet system, which is extremely easy to service (tool-free) and famous for its legendary durability.
What is the weight limit for GRX 40 wheels?
Thanks to a reinforced carbon fiber layup and Sapim spokes, the system weight limit (rider + bike + luggage) is 130 kg. This makes the GRX 40 model an excellent choice not only for dynamic racing but also for heavy bikepacking and touring with panniers, where equipment durability is a priority.
