This classification of bicycle wheels was developed by ASTM International (American Society for Testing and Materials), an international standards organization. Wheels classified by ASTM are assigned a number from 1 to 5, which determines the intended use of the wheel. Below you will find an explanation of what each number means.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

  1. Wheels intended for riding on smooth asphalt – for road and time trial bikes.<\/li>
  2. Wheels intended for riding on paved and gravel roads – for cyclocross and gravel bikes. In this category, jumps of 15 cm are allowed.<\/li>
  3. Wheels intended for riding on light terrain – for cross-country and marathon bikes. In this category, jumps of up to 61 cm are allowed (although there is no guarantee that the wheels will not be damaged as a result of such a jump, everything depends on the rider’s skill).<\/li>
  4. Wheels intended for riding on rough terrain – for enduro and trail. The jump height limit is 122 cm, plus the speed limit is 40 km\/h.<\/li>
  5. Wheels for the most demanding applications – for downhill and freeride. There is no limit to jump height or permissible speed.<\/li><\/ol>
