We have been considering this groundbreaking decision for a long time: as of January 2022, we will no longer be truing wheels from outside our offer.
The Truing of One Thousand and One Wheels
Thanks to the fact that we have been servicing wheels from more or less well-known manufacturers for a very long time, we have been able to learn about the advantages and disadvantages of various technical solutions, which had a huge impact on the shape of our offer. Thousands of extremely different wheels have passed through our workshop, including really difficult cases, and we are convinced that we have already learned our lesson in this field. We conclude this, for example, by the fact that we have been repeatedly recommended as a “last resort”.

Wheelwright goals and priorities
However, our priority is to develop our own brand, not to fix other people’s mistakes (which is what servicing wheels usually comes down to). Very often, wheels brought “just for truing” have too short or mixed spokes, deformed rims, corroded nipples, worn bearings – you can list them for a long time. In such cases, the fight often took several days, and even then it turned out that all the spokes had to be cut and the whole wheel had to be re-laced. Since it is impossible to predict such situations in advance, we tried to stay with the initial estimate, which in turn had no economic justification, and still usually caused concern for the customer, who did not expect such costs. This is well illustrated by the graphic we have already uploaded some time ago. At the tip of the iceberg it says “slightly out of true”, and below the waterline are all the scenarios we’ve dealt with over and over again:
- spokes too short + long nipples
- seized nipples due to galvanic corrosion
- dented rim
- uneven spoke tension
- rounded-off nipples
- hub bearing play
- one different spoke
- wheel is badly out of true
- corroded nipples
- worn hub axle
- incorrect spoke tension
- twisted bladed spokes
- glued spoke threads
- tubular wheel + internal nipples
- cracked rim spoke holes
- worn freehub body
- “my uncle built it for me”
The Titanic here symbolizes the customer’s wallet 😉
We do not completely give up servicing wheels
The list of service services we provide is HERE. We will only accept new rims and hubs for building a set, as well as wheels for lacing, in which we select the appropriate spoke model, taking into account the intended purpose of the set and the weight of the athlete. Of course, we will also take care of such wheels in the future.
Users of our built wheels can always count on our help. In their case, we are sure of the spoke length, the accuracy of the assembly and – in the case of wheels from our offer – the quality of the components, and in case of any irregularities we take responsibility for them. We hope that you understand our decision. We believe that it is the best way to ensure the highest quality of our services and to provide our customers with the best possible experience.
